Does anybody know what the prices would be for a coin like this? It is F-VF I believe. If anyone has prices of the different grades and could post them here for me that would be great. Thank you.
After further research and to correct myself and the information found before, these are actually milled and not hammered.

The 2004 Spink catalogue lists two varieties for the 1561 milled sixpence: small bust with ornate dress (S# 2593) at £70 in Fine, £250 in VF, and tall narrow bust with plain dress (S#2594) at £65 in Fine, £240 in VF. Note that those are British retail prices, and British grading standards.

Thank you Sap. I appreciate the help. I think I will try to get it, it's on ebay and looks pretty nice. Not sure of the grade but now I have at least a price range to go by.

Not much time left on this auction. Was hoping to get some more help before the time ran out so I am going to post an ebay link here. I am hoping someone with a little more expertise than I could give a grade on this coin. I would really like to get it but don't want to overpay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...06&rd=1&rd=1

British good fine. I estimate it will go for about $120-150

Yowza! That much eh? Thank you t360. I would really love to get this coin since I am really into 6 pence right now. I have a lot to learn about this earlier British coinage. Wish I had a Spink book but boy are they expensive too. LOL.

I don't know if I'm much to go on, but I've been shopping for English hammered silver for a few months now, and I own 3. I would expect it to list retail anywhere from US$65-110 depending on the dealer, and if I had eighty bucks to pony up for that coin, that's probably about what my top bid would be on ebay, if only because of the wear on the letters of her name. The portrait despite the scratches is nice and it is the first dated Elizabeth sixpence. A decent coin and like I said, I'd probably pay around $80 max for it. Let us know what happens.

halfabustisbetter, I would love to see some pics of your hammered coins.
And the 1561 is currently running at $88.50 with a couple hours to go.

I would love to have that coin.
Oldest English coin I own is George III cartwheel penny.

Um, that actually is a hammered one, I think. Sear 2560 (small bust, pheon mintmark) was issued in 1561. A "pheon" is a downward-pointing arrowhead; you can see it just above the "61" part of the date. CV £60 in Fine, £225 in VF.
Final price: US$125.

Note: my bidding amounts are based on the fact that I am exceedingly cheap and should be taken with a large grain of salt. I will post pics of my meager British Rulers Series as soon as I can. I sure am glad I'm not the only one they interest.

Well, the final tally was $125 US. The wife bid it up to $103 for me and we were going to share it if won but, oh well, too much for me. Perhaps I will get lucky and find another in the future that isn't as much. It was fun to watch it and gaze at it.

Patience is the key to finding those coins reasonably priced. You'll find one that people ignore for no good reason and swoop in on it. I like going to the UK ebay site too.

Here are pics of Henry (I'll try to get some others up soon): If you are looking for a decent online seller, I suggest checking out "History In Coins" at http://www.bottles.freeserve.co.uk/He has ebay listings and sells on his site as well. Seems quite knowledgeable and is very helpful. If nothing else, it's a very good website for browsing and dreaming.

Very nice Henry! That's the way I like them! Doesn't look like it has ever been dipped or messed with. Thanks for posting it.
