Picked this up a few months ago, seller had it at VG 8. Why do you say its been cleaned? How can you tell? Please educate me so I can look out for this in the future. I'm not unhappy with this purchase as it replaced an AG3 I had before. Thanks for your input.

Why do you say its been cleaned?

A couple of aspects give me this opinion.

First the color appears unnatural and has the washed out appearance seen with cleaning.

Also the dirt (darkness/patina) which is normally around and along the devices on a coin with this amount of handeling(wear) is missing on the obverse. This really jumps out at me as cleaned.

The reverse still has traces of the original gunk that probably covered much of the coin but you can see channels where it was washed away, most evident around 1 and 3 o'clock between the rim and leaves.

Just my opinion and certainly doesn't make the coin worthless. It's not all scratched up like more harshly cleaned coins and that's a good thing also any FEC is a good FEC.

And I could be wrong

The reverse field is almost a dead giveaway of a past cleaning albeit not harsh.
G6 Details as well.

and upstate said what needed to be said! Still a nice type coin cleaned or not, this one wasn't cleaned in a horribly bad way.
