So, I got 4 boxes from the mint today. My 2 rolls of Perrys Victory S quarters, my P&D rolls of the same and my two proof sets. Not sure why they send two sets in two seperate boxes, but they do.

So I opened the first three and no biggy. The fourth I pick up and it is awful lite in the britches. Hmmmm. Open it up and this is what I see...

Mint-Mess-Up...

I was like what? I surely did not order this, though I have been thinking about it. I check the packing slip and it says 2013 proof set definitely NOT 5 Star General Proof Commemorative dollar.

So I am going to order another proof set and start getting the other 5 star coins, cause I really like this one. Though I won't be getting McArthur since his is gold and I can't drop 480 a coin.

31.95 for the proof set and 54.95 for the commem. It is 90% silver.

fioti, the others look very good as well. I really like the McArthur. Kills me that it is gold. Ergh.

Yeah - pictures really don't do the Proof Generals justice do they? If you read about the new laser they used to create the proof dollar and gold $5 you'd see how much more the features stand out on them. I have the others - halves and the uncirculated dollar and there is no comparison - the proof dollar is pretty darn cool. If I had the money I'd buy the 3 coin proof set...

That's what I thought as well. It gives them a "crazed" look.

It really does, almost possessed. Aside from their ghosts being trapped in the coin the overall image does look fantastic

LOL I think that is more an effect of the lighting than anything else. The detail on this coin is amazing. I highly suggest getting it. It looks fantastic in hand.

Ive got the special label PCGS on my watch list or at least one of them. PCGS is brutally slow right now for some reason so they seem to be few and far between at the moment. I'm hoping to be able to wait a little and get a better feel for how many are making the cut, as the last few have gone down in price in a bit from the first listings. Sometimes waiting pays off sometimes it doesn't, if I see the prices start to climb ill jump in though

Nice!! Imagine if it was the gold coin!! I once ordered a proof presidential set for like $14 and they sent me a roll of Cleveland dollars $25.

That was really nice of the mint to send you something that is worth more than what you ordered. I have never been that lucky. But I would guess that if they sent a gold coin by mistake, they would probably ask for it back. Can they?

Yes they can ask for it back, and if you don't send it, well they have your credit card number. Yes I know you could then do a charge back but don't count on ever being able to buy anything else from the mint. (A mix up sending you the wrong item does not count as "unsolicited merchandise" under the law that says you don't have to pay for something you didn't order. The law requires you to return it, but NOT at your expense. If they want it back they have to pay for the shipping.)
