Not too sure what to make of this, any help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried to search for possibilities but with no luck. The coin is still in the factory case and has never been opened. Above the end of the word united and about states it looks as if its missing the coating

it is a common problem, the copper has split from the zinc.

Split plating that happen during the striking process. When a larger portion of the coin is affected then we conclude that the machine had an over pressure setting. It happens. Common.
