Not really surprised... but still LOL

After two £2 with the centre seperated went for £25 and £14 on ebay last week....

There's some "major errors" appeared that have clearly been hacked at to seperate the two parts, then pushed back together to create a monstrosity

Strange coincidence that both sellers use virtually the same description (I got this coin today at the shop.../This coin a got from the shop today...). Also very strange is that in different completed sales, they used the same photo!

"No returns"

That ought to set alarm bells ringing.

Caveat emptor (buyer beware!). Re Gondwana comment - 1KG of unsorted mixed foreign coins and using the same photo to illustrate the sale is not clever!! (completed listings).

The design is stamped on the coin after the two parts are put together. So how could parts of the two different faces appear on the same side? ( Except by some skullduggery after minting?....)

That seller is very shady and is always pushing 'grandads old coins'. Infact I know they've also left themselves feedback from another account because I recognise the style and the woeful spelling from their listings.

There is a term for a car made from bits of other cars and sold to unsuspecting customers. A cut and shunt. A very apt here too.

Re Bacchus2:

The term is "cut and shut". It happens where one car gets its rear end smashed up and another identical vehicle gets the front damaged. Both then get written off by insurers. Some unscrupulous car dealers have cut the two cars in half and joined the good parts to make one "good" one without declaring what they have done. Not only is it illegal, but it is highly dangerous. Any such car being involved in a crash is likely to split wide open causing serious injury. Things like crumple zones for passenger protection will not work.

It is very easy to make these so called errors with dates on the wrong side, or the queens head on the wrong side......Put a £2.00 coin in the freezer overnight.....Next day, take the coin out, tap the centre out, turn it over, put it back, then let the coin reach room temperature......You now have an error £2.00 coin.
