Based on my own research on this photo, I seriously think it is 2007 Canadian penny mixed into the bank roll. Maybe, the Canadian coin experts in this forum correct me if I am off-center by 100%.

Richard, to answer your original post for a request for a grade I notice everyone else has dodged your request), I'd have to state that it doesn't appear it would grade above VF-30 or -35. Presuming it's not cleaned (very difficult to determine many types of cleaning from images, but I think not in this instance), the circulation marks on the rims on both the obverse (at 11, 1, 2, and 4 o'clock) and the reverse (12:30, 4, 5, and 6 o'clock) and in the fields on both sides would tend to keep the grade down if submitted to a top TPG. There also appears to be a gouge at the 4 o'clock position on the obverse, but I don't think it's serious enough to warrant a body bag. I think the circulation marks are too severe to make it XF but I could be wrong (market grading, y'know); I do tend to grade rather harshly. Of course, we're charting new territory with regard to the condition of the devices.

I hope this provides you with enough information regarding your eventual decision whether or not to submit it to a top TPG for slabbing.

Morgan_Fred, I think the first picture is reverse and the second one is obverse. You might want to re-write your comments.
Rest in Peace

OK. Substitute "reverse" for "obverse" and "obverse" for "reverse". That oughtta cover it.

Thank you, monster, for pointing out my mistake. Doesn't happen often I'm caught in an error but when I am, it's usually a very good error and I deserve to be slabbed on the reverse for it. (Help me out here - I'm running out of puns and plays on words on this coin. ).

The coin has to be weighed. If it turns out to be copper then we know it's from 1909-1958 or 1982. Other than that you would have to produce proof that it came from the middle of a 1909-S VDB roll.

I seriously doubt that there are any 1909-S vdb rolls around. So proof is out of the question.

Another problem is the toning, the coin looks to red/orange on the rim to be a 1909-S VDB from an original bank roll. The wrapper would have toned the rim of the coin and this would be evident.

If this is a joke then it can be whatever date you want it to be.lol
