Just picked this up the other day. My first Trade dollar. Yes, the weight is correct and no it doesn't stick to a magnet. The pic of me holding it shows the luster. Thoughts on grade?

I'm going to call the level of detail EF40, but there's not a chance the surfaces are original. The "luster" is polishing; you can clearly see it was cleaned by the crud left behind in the characters at the bottom of the reverse. Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but this is a poster child for "cleaned."

Shiny, with obvious wear. Genuine, EF 40, cleaned.

with everyone above EF45 details cleaned. Still a super looking type coin. Try putting it in an old sulpher based paper flip and leaving it in a window with direct sunlight for a year or so, flipping it every month, may retone to something beautiful - and if that doesn't help, just dip it, nothing lost. I see the rim nicks but I'm not sure that would get the coin a details grade, it's the luster or lack of it, and the look of a cleaned coin overall I'm seeing.

That poor girl got worked over. Maybe make it a pocket piece for awhile to get a more natural appearance ?

for $80.00 I think you did very well. I sold a 78-S that had been harshly cleaned and polished on ebay for a little overt $140.00 a few months ago even though I started it out at 99¢ so even though its polished at the price I think you did fine since everything checks out as far as authenticity
