Travelled to Pueblo, CO today on a work assignment.
Arrived about 4 pm, checked into hotel, ran up to room, as I figured that I had an hour to find coin shops. Google was my friend.
With my electronic address finder in hand, the first was basically a bust. Arrived at the coin/pawn shop and the coin cases were all covered up. He did take the time to let me rummage through some AG/G Lincolns and finally pulled out one tray of nicer Lincolns. Grading was average. A 14 D, without a price on it, was in the tray. He did say he wondered about this one....after I pointed out the "VDB" still on the shoulder, we agreed this was a converted 44 D.
Coin shop number 2 - was boarded up.
Coin shops 3 & 4, were closed at 4:35 pm already. They were side by side...found that interesting.
Coin shop #5 was another pawn & coin shop. They are mostly buying/selling the coins for the silver content, but had quite a number of Morgans/Peace, quarter, & dimes. 3 trays of Lincolns. Purchased a 28 D that is an easy 63 RB for $12. Graded as an "AU".
Next stop was 1943 D Mercury, graded as "BU", and it definitely is....including the FSB. Not a major score, but for $7...and original cartwheel luster...who could pass it up.
Now...THE cherrypick for the day, an XF/AU (LOTS of luster still) 1924 D
Standing Liberty quarter for $20. Coin has luster and a chunk of gum covering the left side of the date and most of the mint mark.
