Bobby,
ebay's main function is to make money. They do this by
responding slow to fraud (as I have personally found out). In this way the auction ends and they can collect their fees.
Why do you think so many people have such high negative feedback ratings. It is because they are still making ebay money. As long as they keep selling tons of items and making ebay money, ebay won't kick them off. READ the site I recommended above. I am negative about ebay for many reasons, only one of which is fraud. They made a huge profit last year after a big stink about how they had to raise fees. The sellers revolted. ebay raised store fees, many sellers left to other sites and closed their stores. The stock dropped and they backed down a bit by saying they would not raise regular seller fees. Guess what? They waited a short while until the stock went back up and then snuck the fee rise in at a later date with very little fan fare. ebay is a double edged sword. I sell there because the venue is the best known at present. If this changes in the future, I will too.

The news did a report tonight on tv. They reported that
recently the founder of ebay was asked (by top law enforcement officials) to stop allowing dangerous and poisonous substances to
be sold that would kill or maim people.
He declined to get involved. I just don't understand
why ebay continues to look the other way? Another fine example of a great site gone to the dregs.

Right after that we'd have to go to Lowes and Home Depot and clear off 2/3 of the shelves to protect people from themselves. It's not ebay's job to protect people from paint.

On this point we can agree at least. No one can stop you from using rope to hang yourself.

Omar, I believe, is just a stockholder now anyway. I don't think he gets involved in the way the company is run anymore. If that's the case, then declining to get involved or answer the question was the correct thing to do,.

Printed with written permission from TAG.
Just an FYI for those with ebay Accounts.

UNANNOUNCED REVISION TO ebay USER AGREEMENT
AND PRIVACY POLICY
************************************************************
In a move that is in direct violation of the ebay user agreement, ebay has made a change
to the ebay user agreement and privacy policy without announcing it on the ebay
announcement board. The agreement is immediately effective for user IDs registered as of
16 May 07 and for users registered prior to 16 May, effective 9 Jul 07.

Some ebay users received an email on the subject dated 21 May 07, but this was not a
universal mailing by any degree. For example TAG received the email on one of 10
accounts registered on ebay. Interestingly the account the email was received on was not
an active account, nor the only one with the option allowing ebay to send email.

A quick read of the agreement and privacy policy appears to give ebay the right to read
and censor all email sent using their system, something ebay said it would never do (as a
matter of interest last week ebay blocked an email with promotion information sent to
another user through the ebay system, so communication between users is now closed
unless involved in an ebay sale - so much for community); permission for ebay to
exchange all financial and other personal information between ebay and PayPal and any
other ebay company, something ebay said it would never do; permission to allow ebay to
share, sell or rent your financial and personal information to anyone they want, something
ebay said they would never do; permission for ebay to personalize ads based on your
personal and financial information that they have gathered and saved about you,
something ebay said it would never do; in other words it abrogates everything that would
protect your personal and financial information from being exploited by ebay in any way
ebay desires - and since you sign the user agreement by using the site - ebay feels you
have no recourse - and only a court of law will change that.

In addition ebay is once again playing with the copyright of your information - images,
listings etc - and though they have always sworn that the only reason they have the
copyright privileges of your material is so that they can post your listings on the site, they
are trying to once again twist this so they can do whatever they want with this information.
Once again a successful class action, suit by state attorneys' general, or government action
will be the only thing that gives ebay users any rights at all - since ebay continues to
pervert what community means into whatever is profitable for ebay insiders.

What kind of orginization is this? ebay is doing no such thing. Please tell me how they get what their claiming from this....

quote:
Combating Fraud. We're increasing our efforts to combat fraud on the site with a variety of programs. For example, we've made some changes that allow us to address "Ask a Question" and "My Messages" spam and other malicious activities using our message systems. And we're making sure our disclosures about cooperating with law enforcement allow us to respond to increasingly sophisticated fraudsters and criminals.

Streamlining Services. We've heard your comments about how many steps it takes to complete a transaction or get customer support where multiple ebay companies are involved. So we've made some changes that will allow our Customer Support team to help you with questions that span our companies. And we're streamlining your use of the services provided by members of the ebay corporate family, so your experience across the ebay Inc. platform will be as seamless as we can make it. Some of our new programs also mean you'll see ebay services and content in a lot of places (not just on the site), so we've made some changes to reflect that.

Customizing Your ebay Experience. We're rolling out programs and working with partners that help make our sites and services, and some of the ads you see on the web, more relevant and useful to you. Naturally, because we're a transparent community, we'll identify the new ads served with this program and provide you with choices about them. Beginning in July, we'll make a new preference available in My eBay--named AdChoice--that lets you tell us whether you want us to use the information we have about you to customize the ads you see. You'll be able to sign in and change your advertising preferences in My ebay at any time. You'll also notice links on the ads we serve this way, so you'll know an ad is served with the new program and be able to set your preferences right from the ad.

Somebody there has a crazy imagination.

They've been doing it for a long time. I personally couldn't care less. Especially if it helps to stop spam and phishing attacks. I've got nothing to hide. I wish they would stop all the questions that are already answered plainly in the listing.

Always been that way. I don't recall them ever saying they would never do it. I don't see a problem with it anyway.

quote:

Outright lie. http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies...-policy.html

You can turn it on or off in your preferences. Who cares. In fact, if I must look at ads, I'd rather them not be for feminine hygeine so I'm turning it on.

Nothing new. This is old news from 2 years ago, that started when they limited closed auction searches to two weeks and started selling the info to companies like Terapeak. I hate to tell you, but ebay has always had the rights to your listings once you post them. It is indeed a touchy subject, however every forum on the Internet could be questioned the same way. It's absurd.

They asked me to post their info, so why don't you
contact them directly. I'd like to see the response you get to your questions as I tend to believe that they are probably posting
truthful info.
Your "who cares" answers are that, I do. I care, because any more info that is out there in cyberspace about me or anyone else that uses the internet is just another way for cyber scammers to take advantage of unsuspecting individuals.
I just posted this because I beleive that ebay has alot of their own cleaning up to do. If ebay said they would "never do it", then WHY are they doing it?

I have no desire to. Their opinions mean nothing to me, because I form my own opinions. "Bashing" sites always do the same thing, they spin the facts in such a way that it fits their agenda hoping that a bunch of sheep are reading and won't do the sensible thing. Like go and read the privacy policy and make up their own mind.

How is your info out in cyberspace? I don't understand. They are using your info to serve relevant ads (which you can turn off) based on what they know about you. If you think this constitutes your personal info out in cyberspace, well, OK.

1. I don't think you could ever find where ebay ever said they "would never do it". Again they're hoping the sheep will believe. Did they cite examples?

2. I find it interesting that all of a sudden they're mad about this stuff when most of it is far from anything new.

I took the liberty of checking TAG out, and I have to say that their degree of panic is breathtaking. I am truly impressed with the quality and protection afforded by their tinfoil hats.

I've been on ebay for eight years now, and I never knew how much danger I was in. Golly.

I tried to read some but Times New Roman gives me a headache, in addition to being out of style since the 80's.
