Picked this up a while ago when silver was still high. I probably paid more than I should have. I am not sure what to call this. The edge is reeded. So I guess it is more like a round. Any idea on mintage, scarcity, or popularity? Btw, it is good to see some traffic lately in the PM section, thanks to the price fluctuation.

Per the 6th Edition (Vol. 2) of the Indexed Guide Book of Silver Art Bars, this one was issued in 1988, mintage is unknown and the "rarity value" assigned in 2008 was $50. It's the only oval-style J-M bar I could find reference to. All the others are the typical rounded-corner rectangle style. Couldn't find one of these in ebay (past or present), so possible present value is hard to call. I think you have one of the more rare J-M bars here but if you're interested in selling it, PM me.

I am willing to buy also. Have solid buyer references now with many CCF members.

That is a rarity indeed, more so than the off the wall fractionals that JM made. Thanks for showing this to us!

Ah the VISA by JM Olympic bar.
This was considered a huge flop at the time, and is part of a set. The mintage of this oval round is 1500-2500 range.
If you want this bar gone, I have buyers that will pay $125 + for this bar alone, just shoot me a PM

Leave it to you rich Canadians to rain on a poor old Yank's parade. I was steeling myself and getting ready to offer $65 or maybe $75 -- HA,HA! Oh well...
Amaths--Looks like the moral of this story is don't cut this one loose unless you don't have any money to buy food with!

Thanks guys so much for all the information and interest. Unfortunately I wasn't planning to sell this bar, rare or not. I don't think this flop is going anywhere but stuck with me for a number of years, if not forever. It fits nicely in my humble collection. And you guys made my day. You know, finally, one of the few things I own can be called collectible. :)
@swrbxxx: Now I am curious about the set. How is the packaging like? Did it come with a COA? Was the bar sealed originally? What else was in the set?

These bars came sealed originally, though most ended up being taken out by vendors.
There is 6 to the set all with different companies on the back.
It was kind of like olympic pins but instead silver rounds where you had to buy them through different vendors.
Neat and rare piece!

Sweet! Were all 6 minted by JM for different companies?

All by JM
At the time these bars were pressed, JM was the go to company, as engelhard (biggest competition) stopped pressing silver bullion in 1986
