Was going through some Early Half Dollars and came across this very interesting 1838 Reeded Edge. I LOVE the reverse owie on it and would like opinions as to whether she had a bad die crack when struck or is this a cracked planchet. Inquiring minds want to know...

Great eye, folks. I think it is important to distinguish this form of crack from others. This is a bisecting crack. We all know that die cracks are fairly common, especially on nickels and these bust halves. However, what is much more rare is to find an example with a die crack that bisects the coin from rim to rim. What makes this particular example interesting is that it is semicircular.

Fantastic coin, and thanks for sharing. I like especially because it appears the coin has never been cleaned.
