I have these old coins. Very few now. Are there many forgeries of this type? I want to buy one.

I have promised myself I would buy one coin of this type for my crown collections and now I achieve. I bought this coin from sixbid.com (WAG) and get it in my hands. I feel good with a close connection with history. I saw this coin in a museum in South China (Guangzhou Province) in 2005. This coin was one of the many Trade dollars happened to be circulated in old China. This is one of the most important coin to me so I would treasure it.

Information of the coin: Doge Pasquale Cicogna 1585-1595, 31.40 grams, 41.0-42.0mm, S.G. 10.397 (corresponding to 94.77% Ag).

Enjoy the pictures:

There are some questions to be discussed:

Do you think my Specific Gravity measurement acceptable, that is, is the silver content of this coin really so high (over 90%) at that time?

Who know the name of the cross on the coin? Was it an emblem of Venice Republic? Is there any relationship with the Brabant Cross of Austrian Netherlands? They look smilar to me at least.

Thank you for sharing your opinions.

Congratulation on an awesome looking coin. I have a 70 Soldi (1/2 scudo) from 1617-1618 and the scudo is in my wish list. I think the obverse is the winged lion of St Mark and the reverse cross is floriated cross. See below for reference of the cross,

Coat of arms of Venice was the winged lion of St Mark, I have been researching little bit about Venice recently as I was reading Dan Brown's Inferno :)
