I just thought I'd check on some finished auctions in ebay and do the math. Only counting auctions that CLEARLY show you what you are getting, X number of quarters, dimes, etc. I found that the three auctions I checked went for: $1.6 face went for $39 or about $31.97/oz (minus $2 shipping) $5 face in dimes went for $133 or about $35.94/oz (minus $3 shipping) $1.25 face went for $31 or about $32.07/oz (minus $2 shipping) I find it hard to believe that folks are shelling out a $10/oz premium on worn US junk! I should be selling my junk and loading up on primium rounds!

Bought silver maples yesterday $30 plus $4 per ounce freight. When is the $24 going to kick in? Nobody knows, nobody is talking. (We don't have any stock to sell to you now)!!!

It is a different market down here, I think I can pick up Libertads at the bank for a $5 premium...

Paper silver prices have little to do with physical silver prices. Premiums cover the difference. Sure some people find a deal here and there but for the most part silver and gold have held up. It could take months of these prices to see silver come down.

TPG that's not true. Spot price has had a lot to do with physical price for the last 20 or 30 years if not forever. While its true there's always been a markup for physical that has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that everyone who puts their hands on it needs to make a profit from the mints to the dealer. A week or two of raised premiums from a hard fast drop and sellers being under water from their pruchase price does not override its entire history and set a new standard of business

My comment was for today not 20-30 years ago. I was not referring to that since the OP was about prices now. As spot dropped the premiums jumped and the inventory dropped. That is all I was referring to. I am not seeing dealers selling ASE's in quantity for $23.00.

My comment was about 20 or 30 years ago either. Yes right now dealers are under water and taking advantage of panic buying for higher premiums. However the point was the last few days don't all of a sudden set a new market from here on out and its just simply not true to say spot prices have little to do with the price of bullion

When I can buy bullion around spot I will agree with you. Again my comment is for today not past or future deals. That comment was made for today. Who knows maybe tomorrow spot will once again be accurate. Today, I feel it is not.

I must admit I agree with both of you, depending on the level of the market you are reffering to. Either way, for most of us, the issue is moot, just splitting hairs really.
In short, if you can find it and you like the price...buy it! :)

I picked up some maples yesterday for $28.50 each and some bullion for $25.50. It is getting harder to find silver around my area though. There has only been one consistent dealer selling silver for $2 over spot for bullion and $5 over spot for ASE, Maples, etc. The other dealers have either "frozen their prices" at around $31 for bullion and $35 for others or said that they are out.

I just picked up some junkie silver yesterday. $9 a piece for common date Walkers, picked up 10, and $1.80 a piece for 90% Dimes, got 2x rolls of those. The deals are out there, I had to call a half dozen local dealers to find this little honey pot.

Is the "junk silver" worth buying if you can get it for a good price? I picked some up at the LCS for what it's going on APMEX - I have heard some places it's getting hard to find

Hard to impossible in a brick-and-mortar store unless they are charging insane primiums. Look at the ebay prices I found!
