All right, yup7676. So far you have barged into every single thread dealing with the purchase of physical gold and silver announcing that now is the time to sell and that you sincerely hope nobody is left holding the bag. When pressed however, you stated that what you really meant was "selling short silver" and not dumping our coins:

Quote:
OH I think I may have confused many of you when I say sell in this case.

I am saying sell, in this case, as in selling short silver. I am not saying to take your coins and dump them,, you do that when the prices are going wild and you can sense the frenzy. As we say, sell when you can, NOT when you have too.

But yes, the game now, is to sell silver, as in SELL IT SHORT,, and watch it come down until the market decides it has had enough of selling. Sell short futures contracts, ETFs, silver mining companies, you name it.. and this also applies to gold.

So yes, we all know what your views are with regard to paper. That's not what we are discussing, however, and I have no clue whether it's even possible to "sell short" physical silver.

So here's your chance, yup -- please tell us your advice with regard to physical silver and gold (especially for those of us who plan to hold onto it for years and who are not looking to make a quick buck). Is it wrong to keep trying to "buy the dips" if and when product becomes available at a decent price? Should we, in fact, sell everything we own right now and buy more when prices fall even lower?

Again, I'm not asking about futures trading, contracts, ETFs, GLD and SLV -- just about long-term physical ownership.

Wait, before we start the discussion, can we please spell "gold" and "silver" properly? I'm allergic to three-letter acronyms and come on, typing that extra "o" (or "ier" if you're so inclined) won't kill you. ;(

I believe that GLD and SLV refer to paper commodities. My point is that I don't care about anything other than physical ownership of gold and silver.

Do they? I buy mostly numismatic silver so I don't ever plan on going into paper trading...

I think so. That's what yup7676 keeps calling it, so I'm assuming that's what it is.

Speaking of yup, still waiting for his advice...

The price of the market dictates the physical, so every turn the market makes applies to the price we can buy or sell physical, so the views of paper are intrinsically linked to the physical.

He's stated a many times already on the long thread that he feels were still on a downtrend, that if you're gonna buy buy in small nibbles until the market looks like it's definitely hit a stable level (which it doesn't seem to yet because of the volumes of market buying and selling).

In other words, he's pretty much answered your question already in the other thread :)

I don't even pay attention to spot. Why? Okay, here's my top investment advice. Listen closely!

1. Go to a garage (or "car boot", I guess) sale and look around for .925 jewelery. You'll find plenty now that the weather's warm. Buy it all. Try to negotiate down to a dollar per piece. If they won't go that low, leave.
2. Trade in your accumulated stash of .925 for rounds or coins at a store that deals in both precious metals and coins. I can usually get at least two Canadian silver dimes per item, and so my date set is coming along great.
3. Make huge profits, probably.

Can I be an investment guru now?

While we're still on semantics (not really) I've wondered what the triple comma means. Is it like an ellipsis with greater urgency? Is it a really consistent typo or a grammatical choice?

GLD and SLV are the ETF fund names for them. They arent physical ownership but give an insight into whats going on since the big price changing type money operates on wallstreet.

Ark summed up the yup posts I've seen very nicely as well

Silver has gone up nearly a buck and a half in the last 12hrs.
This may burn his "paper shorts"

Don't really care what yup or any of the anti physical metals people think. I'll keep buying the real deal and stock piling. As for paper, it has one very good use.
I really enjoyed the smack down last week as I was able to pick up more of the shinny stuff at discount prices.
The world's financial system continues to deteriorate no matter what the bankers and politicians try. Holding metals is my security blanket and all those knocking it are just blowing hot air as far as I am concerned.

No ones knocking it, just saying not to get caught up in the fear mongering that the world is going to end and actually think it through whats really going on and actually likely to happen.

If you just want it obviously price doesn't matter much. If youre using it as an investment price is everything. When using it like an investment its exactly that and not immune from the rules that every other investment is subject too.

Anyone who says its without a doubt going to reach new all time highs that have never been seen before is blowing just as much smoke if not more than anyone who says its without a doubt going down and cant ever come back up.

Keep this in mind all ya new to the pm and market game, bulls use their horns to lift ya high and bears claw ya back down....

These guys here (J.P.Morgans of the world) get fat in the middle while the rest of us just scrape by lol....

Yup takes the classic old mean conservative cave bear stance (JK;) we dont agree on everything or even a lttle but your alright) and there is only really two sides minus the fence riders lol....
