Quote: Some of it is higher quality which obviously the maples dont enjoy, but its also the higher mintage as well. PCGS for example before the mintage jump had a couple hundred Pandas a year that would get 70s, now its 10s of thousands of theres more to cherry pick from. The Canadian mints low quality is more of the exception imo.
Hmmm I thought the Maples where quite nice plus they are 9999 instead of 999 purity silver with the added bonus of a $5 face value where as the ASE are only $1 , but maybe I am just biased as I am Canadian..

The 2011's and 2012's are significantly lower because they have a higher mintage Thats exactly what I've been saying, the mintage has eroded their large premiums. While the Panda brand is still thought of as a high premium series the longer that higher mintage is in tact the less people will think of them like that. They probably wont ever be priced like ASEs from importing but their 15-20+ dollar premiums are gone. Once you get into the millions for mintage its all pretty much the same whether its 8 million or 20 million its just not rare Quote:Hmmm I thought the Maples where quite nice plus they are 9999 instead of 999 purity silver with the added bonus of a $5 face value where as the ASE are only $1 , but maybe I am just biased as I am Canadian.. Lol aside from their milk spot issue maybe it does have something to do with being .9999 instead of .999. Thats really their only difference (unless their presses are older/not as powerful) between them and the other series which dont seem to have a problem getting 70s anymore.

I still think the Panda's unique design every year make them more collectible for a lot of people than Eagles.

Well, seeing as how the ASEs at Goldmart are marked "Delayed" while the Pandas are supposedly in stock, I'd go with the Pandas...

The Eagles vs. Pandas quandary is an interesting consideration and I agree with the "Pandas now and then back to Eagles later if and when the price and premium situations get re-normalized" conclusion.
There is however one other even more important consideration (which is contained in the title of this thread) that nobody has written even one syllable about yet, and that's Goldmart.
Other threads are on fire with reports of how they: --Don't tell the truth about product availability and estimated delivery dates; --Ignore customer emails; --Leave customer callers on hold for ridiculous amounts of time and treat customers badly on the phone if somebody finally manages to connect; --Don't ship orders (that have been full-paid) for such long periods of time that there is no valid or acceptable reason for their shipping delays; --Have definitely earned and richly deserve their BBB rating of "F" ... etc, etc, etc ...
I don't see any sense in ordering from them unless and until they get their act back together and cut out the crap that their present style of "customer service" is comprised of. I think patronizing them these days is a guarantee of over-the-top mistreatment, frustration and aggravation which will far outweigh any minor cost savings that they may offer.
I'm with you on the Eagles vs. Pandas thing, but not on buying them from Goldmart. Recent Goldmart performance has definitely proven that to be a bad idea. But -- as always, "To each his own..." Buy from them if you want, but only if you're willing to tolerate the way they will treat you.

Good call Fat Freddy, missed that part entirely. I'm with you in that I will not personally buy from Goldmart especially since they are selling product at the higher premiums even though they dont have it in stock which means theyre buying at the lower prices and cant even use the excuse they bought in the 30s.

To Goldmart's credit, I think they are finally starting to learn their lesson. Almost all of their stock is now listed as "delayed," so hopefully they are no longer selling stuff they don't actually have in stock.
FWIW, my last order of gold from them finally shipped yesterday. A week later than promised, of course, but still...

BB---When it comes to the mainstream bullion coins (ASEs, CSMs, Pandas, Philharmonics, Libertads, etc), all the major online dealers have long since sold off the last of what they bought back up in the 30's. If there's anything left that was bought back then, it's only Armenian Noahs Arks, Holy Land Mint stuff and other low-volume, slow-moving items. What we're into right now is a phase of in-your-face price gouging and the online dealers are all preying on mindlessly impatient buyers like so many sharks in a feeding frenzy. I'm sitting back and waiting at least until products are once again available.

I'm curious if anyone has had a bad experience with Gold Mart if they spent $7,500 on bullion in one shot. If the item is in stock, and they offer free 2-day insured shipping, is the buyer experience that bad? I've also seen sometimes they offer the same with $5,000 spent. And yes, I would go with Pandas now & ASE's later!

Trip--If you're in a position to spend $7.5K w/ Goldmart, do it and let us know how it goes. I'm sure you'll have as memorable an experience as those of us who do cost averaging and only spend $1K - $2.5K at a time (but do so regularly) have had.
When they talk about "in stock" that doesn't mean they have the product in hand or that your order will get prompt shipping. My experience is that they still hung my order for an "in stock" item up for 10 to 20 days after I deposited cash payments into their BoA account. They didn't get that BBB rating of "F" for no reason.
But--like I said above, "To each his own." If you want to, pull the trigger. Let us know how it goes.

Quote: I'm curious if anyone has had a bad experience with Gold Mart if they spent $7,500 on bullion in one shot. Depends on how you define "bad experience". I have placed many orders with them for amounts over $7500. Nothing ever seems to ship when promised and I always get a bunch of excuses if I call them to find out why. But I honestly don't really care now that I've come to expect it, since the prices have been so good in the past. On the other hand, one large order somehow got opened in transit and a 100-ounce silver bar plus a tube of Philharmonics went missing. When informed of this, Goldmart sent me a new (much better wrapped) shipment at no extra cost. It took weeks for the replacement to arrive, but it did eventually get to me.

@ FatFreddy - Yeah, I've always been a fan of local shows / shops - I'm just hesitant to place such a large order on Gold Mart. Your story makes me wonder.
@ barryg - Now that is very interesting when you've made transactions like that. Wow. To me a bad experience would be a wire deposit of $7,500+ and them breaking the 2-Day shipping rule for an item that is advertised as "in-stock". Anything longer than 7 days would make me question the company. And I certainly remember your thread about the 100 JM Bar ordeal. Glad it worked out in the end.
The common denominator between both of your posts is the wait time (and very unique experiences). I will set my expectations accordingly when dealing with Gold Mart. I will be honest, it's disappointing to hear this. I appreciate the perspective. Very interesting to say the least.
Back to thread topic - GO Pandas (for now!).
