Last week I had it happen yet again. I bought a PCGS certified coin ( in OGH with great eye pop ) from a seller on ebay only to have him "claim" he lost that particular coin but was going to send me another in a different holder but same grade instead. He claimed he looked all over and must have inadvertently taken down the wrong ad. Then, as usual when I said I wasn't interested in a switch and only wanted the exact coin in the ad or I wasn't interested, he offers a small discount if I accept the "switch coin" instead. This is like 5 times now I've had a guy send me the wrong one or "can't find" the right one and always with the "switch" offer to boot. Way too many of these to just all be "innocent mistakes". At least this one didn't send me a switch making me return it. I think ebay should have a category for B&S reporting on sellers. This schtick gets old!

Its hard to say for sure. Misplacing things does happen so do bait and switches. If they relist the exact same coin and do it again its definitely a bait and switch and there are ways you can report those sellers to ebay

Sounds shady to me. Yeah you can report them on ebay.

I'd be p'ed off if I were you! Thankfully that has never happened to me, but I, like basically all of you I'd assume, buy a coin because I like the coin itself, not the grade the slab says (if even slabbed).
Wether its slabbed or raw I buy a coin as I grade it myself and more so than the grade for the eye appeal, which for me personally is usually a toned coin. So if I bought a slabbed coin, that I liked for the toning and they offered to send me one of equal grade because they lost it... Ya, that wouldn't be ok with me AT ALL...

Id wait to see a picture of the replacement before passing judgement personally. If I liked it I would take it, if not obviously I wouldnt

A coin shop in California (Beverly Oaks Coin) did that to me through an Amazon purchase. They sent me a different date Franklin half dollar. I sent it back and they provided me with a refund, but I was out the shipping cost back to them. In my mind, if they send the wrong production, they seller/sender should pay for the return. So... fast forward a couple of months and they send me an email asking why I gave them a 1-star rating. I explained about sending the wrong coin and paying $5 in shipping for their mistake (I had sent them an email when I returned the item, but I guess it didn't mean anything until I dinged them on the rating). To their credit, they did the right thing and put $5 refund on my credit card. Now that I think about it... how comfortable to I feel knowing that this coin shop has my credit card number?

I had a guy do that to me once. Left him really bad feedback, so bad, he tried to come after me. Tough luck.

Basebal21- your absolutely right, I actually had originally said that I'd have to see the new coin in my first post but then I edited it to remove that comment. The reason I removed it was- if I honestly believed that they lost/already sold the coin I purchased (or something along those lines) then yes, I would like to see the "replacement" before I denied it.
But, for me at least, and I could be very wrong, but it seems that the seller is more so trying to get over on people, using a "bait" coin with great appeal/toning etc that they don't have, only to offer to send another coin they do have once you buy the "bait". Like offering an awesome coin knowing that it will get more hits than a normal example of the grade hoping they can pass off the coin they do have now that they already have you..
But I guess I should still see if I like the "new" coin, and give them the benefit of the doubt if I'm ever in that situation, But just knowing how picky I am when purchasing for eye appeal I don't know if I'd be pleased. Though I suppose I could be... Stranger things have happened, lol.
