Just got a few big bags of 40% kennedys to sort through. Normally I keep what I figure to be AU/BU. I am curious of any other types I should keep outside of 1970s (Which I haven't found as of yet.)

I'd stick to BUs, personally, but if an AU catches your eye I guess it's alright. I suppose you could look for no-FG coins, and personally among BUs I find die polishing states pretty interesting.

40% means 40% silver content therefore I am curious as to why you wouldn't just keep all of them. Or are you just looking for the ones in better condition and going to sell the rest.

Adding my opinion, why not keep all of them unless you plan on selling them on ebay and making a profit to buy or get more coins. Silver is Silver. 40% is nice and 90% is better, and best of all would be the ASE or silver maples.

I have been buying/selling coins over the past few years and been keeping my profit in coins to add to my stack.
Recently had the opportunity to buy quite a few 40% halves to resell. In the past I kept the better condition ones, but this time around if I kept all the 'decent' ones I'd be biting too far into my profit.
Out of the 200 I looked through this afternoon I kept 30 or so, 10 or so were in BU/MS shape.
I would LOVE to get more 90% but at the moment none of my contacts have it for a reasonable price. I did manage to get a roll of 90% halves which ended up pretty good for me, however the margin wasn't as good as 40% or 35%.

Hope you got a good deal on them as the price of silver is down. I have three rolls of 40%ers sitting here now I am debating on selling or not. I don't want the powers that be manipulating the value down even further. Probably cash them in tomorrow though.
I would just keep the high grade ones, AU58 and up. Any errors you might find as well. The others, cash em in if you can make a profit. If you can't, I might still pull the trigger if the prices keep creeping south, just so you don't lose too much.

Isn't the answer to your question dependent on what you care more about at this moment....maximizing any profit or adding to your personal collection?

Ended up keeping 5 rolls of BU coins, 2 rolls are 1966 that look completely uncirculated (I imagine that someone broke up two bank rolls as the condition looks amazing).

I'd keep em all. Of course take out the best numismatic examples and keep the scrap for silver. I have a bit of 40% Kennedy's I got at cost from the bank more than 30 years ago.
