Hi every one, I just love this site, and welcome every one. I have another 2 coins that I would like an expert option on. This 1925 Penny and 1946 Penny came from my album that my mother purchased for me 21 years ago, I was wondering what peoples thoughts were of there condition and value, this would help me heaps for my house insurance ;-) Any help would be great ;-) Edited by pubbrad 05/04/2013 07:57 am

Both coins look quite OK to me, but I have never seen a lump of metal like that before, in front of the date, on the '46.

Thank you for reply Sel_691, I have always thought that lump of metal in front of the date of the 1946 was just a slight dint?

1925 looks aVF to my eyes. Might be worth $100-130.
1946 looks a similar grade and probably worth $50-70.

If you were to take a photo of the crown on the 1925 penny at a bit of an angle it might show the band more easily. Having just had a second look the coin might be slightly better than I first thought.

For insurance purposes i'd be going with retail prices/catalogue value $425 for the 25.
$165 for the 46.

Both good looking coins- It is nice to have two of the harder dates to build around. Mums are the best.!!

Would agree with enworb about valuation but it raises the question of what do you go with - the going rate or the "book value"?

I think its unlikely that an insurance company will pay out on things like coins without a reputable valuation anyway.

Yeah thats right Enworb, you do have to have them professionally evaluated or thats what the insurance companies & banks I spoke to about it said.
