Welcome to Coin Community, amichael02. Nice to have you here. If, as I assume, you just flipped the coin for the camera, I expect the reverse to be upside-down compared to the obverse. That's how US coins are struck. By that measure, this is still what we call a "rotated die," maybe 15 or 20 degrees as it's measured because (again, if I have it right) the coin should be exactly upside-down as pictured. Interesting, cool, but not extraordinary. Value would be related to grade (small pics, but I'm thinking EF45) and rarity by variety (which I started typing too early to determine yet). If you paid $150 or less, now would be a good time to pour a toast. I'd be proud to own this one. Some features make me worry a bit about cleaning, but it's a strongly-struck coin and a pleasure to look at.

As far as cleaning, I had the same concern, there is marking on the v of the neck that is odd to me.

I was more worried about what seem to be horizontal lines on the left side of the obverse. It don't matter; for $50, you'd best already be pouring. Enjoy a good buy. Doesn't matter at that price.

Well, thanks :)Those marks are not present on the coin in person, odd.

Nice buy! Borderline XF/AU in my opinion. May have had a light cleaning but it still might grade problem free at a major TPG. Worth considerably more than $50.

and WOW, $50 is an amazing price for this coin! If you dont mind me asking where did you get it for that price? I'd buy these all day at $50, you got a fabulous deal! I'm at EF-40-45 on this one, and I love the rotated die, not overly rare but very cool none the less, adds a bit of uniqueness, IMHO at least.. Nice pick up!!

Interesting! I have an 1823 Capped Bust half-dollar and amichael02's post prompted me to pull it out and re-examine it. I think it exhibits the same rotation: does anyone else concur? I can't believe I never took note of it before, I was unaware of any rotated dies for this type.

Definitely XF45 minimum. I am not seeing anything that says cleaning. What I see appears to be on the 2x2 plastic. As mentioned, that was one heck of a deal!

Hey! Nice coin and good buy. If IHCs didn't suck me in, it would have been the bust halves. I have a feeling it will happen when I get out of grad school.

Thank you all very much! I like this coin a lot. I posted an ad for old coins in local publication and ended up getting this coin out of a pile of old stuff this gentleman had. His wife was making him sell of some of his collection and I threw an offer down on it.

Considering sending it off for grading, however not sure if the price of grading is worth it. Thoughts?

I don't think it is worth sending in - you can use that $50 bucks to buy another coin. BUT! Flatten those staples. You can flatten them with a butter knife. I'd recommend a stapler that staples the back flat. They are not so common, for whatever reason. At Office Depot, they had at least 50 different staplers and only one that stapled flat. And it was like $40. I bought mine from Wizard, when I got a bunch of other supplies. http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pro...ll-size.html
