I just purchased one of these and would like to authenticate it. I can't seem to find the thickness of these coins. If you have one of these and could throw a caliper on it, it would help me greatly. The coin I have is 1.06mm weighing 4.18 grams.
Thanks.

Fortunately, the Bela Lyon Pratt design coins are the easiest to check for thickness.
Unfortunately high precision calipers still needed, because it may be perhaps still 18 ct. gold, with only a small difference in density, if fake.

Does it have a mint mark?

Usually the concept of thickness on a struck coin is meaningless. Where do you measure it at? Most people try and measure at the rims, but the rim thickness varies and is also a function of the strength of the strike. On the Prat coins though the "rim" fields and high points of the design are all the same thickness so a measurement of these might make sense. Unfortunately as far as I know there are no official stats on thickness except for that of the strip/blanks.

If you could post pictures of it, some of our forum members could probably give you a good idea of whether or not it is real. To be certain you could take it to a reputable coin shop and someone there should be able to let you know if it is authentic.
