My mom used to work at the Royal Bank in the early 1950's and pulled this one when she was counting money. It has some wear, but generally almost UNC condition.

That is a great error!! I am guessing value around the $500-$650 range.

In 2002, it was in a Torex auction, but my dad had second thoughts, and I bought it back from the auction when it was about $660, before the auction ended, so your estimate of value is pretty close.

Fantastic error..!! Could anyone here explain what took place?
It shows that the signatures go on "after" the printing is complete. ..but..
Was the note folded when she saw it and if so or not,.. how did she pick up on the partial signature on the flip side?
..and I'm guessing that the bottom left corner is also clipped off?

My mom is visiting so she was working for the Royal in 1954 and this was in a bundle from the Bank of Canada. Over the years, it does have a bit of creasing, as I'm not sure how my father stored it. Underneath the fold, is the continuation of the bill with the serial number. Then, somehow it got folded, and the signatures went on. Yes, there is a small part of the corner missing when unfolded. I think the other corner is from another bill, that probably was next in line when it was mis-folded and cut.

If memory serves; at this time the printers would ship the notes to Bank of Canada without signatures such that they were not Legal Tender. The Bank of Canada would print the signatures themselves and make the notes legal tender then distribute them.
It appears to me that you have 2 errors; the fold is one the smaller piece is from a 2nd note and not related to the fold over one.
Nice find! Chris

I'm just curious but how do people or dealers obtain these errors? It's not like Central Banks would sell this nor would any normal person would use this to spend these.

Some quick bank employees can pull them "before" they get caught and scrapped ...as happened in this case.. I do love that special signature...

Very Nice. I am amazed at these kinds of conditions every time I see them.
Good luck.
