I know the carbon spots will give a details grade, but is it MS?

MS64 cleaned is my uneducated guess. I'd suggest tucking it into your pocket with a couple-dozen other copper cents for a couple of months. With a few soaks in acetone in-between... It'll probably drop the grade down to EF/AU, but it'll be an honest EF/AU coin when you're done.

I would ask Bad Thad what might be done with the carbon spots. They will always be there, at least to some extent.

Possibly cleaned, the carbon spots are permanent and cannot be removed without further damage.

Nice coin, too bad about the light cleaning and, the carbon spots.

And, yes, you can't remove the carbon spots.

MS-64 seems like the grade. It's in very good condition.

I'm going to go with MS62 as the remaining luster appears to be broken up and the hairlines on the obv surfaces. also some rim dings on the reverse. the face on this is really strong. particularly the beard.
