Can you take close ups of the TRUST area and at the bottom where it looks like a lamination peel? I would say this is a lamination with peel with a portion that has fallen away. Maybe a strikethrough and lamination? Here is a lamination that sold on ebay that shows what a peel looks like. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-P-Linc...047675.l2557It also looks like the lettering is on the top layer and on the coin (look under the N in IN God We Trust). I am not an expert.

Looks like a large section of a planchet split off and got struck through.

This is an interesting one. I'm thinking that a delaminated portion of the planchet folded over, and then the coin was struck. That would explain the striations . I'm pretty darn sure that it is genuine, but I too would like a picture of TRUST. If it is real, I wonder if you could call it a fold-over strike. Edit: To clarify, I don't think any portion of the coin fell off which would make this a pretty unique coin. Wait for another opinion, though.

Looks like I see the "R" in TRUST..Its weird cause it looks like part of the rim is on the delaminated part...Its cool whatever it is!

At the 3 o'clock position through the 4 o'clock the rim is missing, it's on the lamination split. About 45 to 50 percent of the face of the planchet split off, shifted left and was pressed back on when the coin was struck.

I'll take more detailed pictures tomorrow and upload them. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this coin had something unique about it!

HEY! I am an expert!: 'ex' as in a 'has been', and 'spert' as in a 'drip under pressure'. I might run with DrDon on this one.

Ok guys, I took more detailed pictures. I hadn't taken the coin out of the 2x2 I bought it in until now. I had initially thought that the flap part was flat on the coin, but it's not. Here's my question in regards to the flap: Should I keep the coin in a 2x2 (so the flap remains pressed down flat), or should I keep it in a small case that is less restricting, so the flap is free to be slightly raised? I'm just afraid of it breaking off, so I really don't know what to do.... As for the question of how much of "TRUST" is visible, the "R" is visible, and the "U" is visible, very worn, but still visible. I can't see the "S" or the "T". Here are the pics, there are alot of them because there's alot going on on this coin and I don't want to miss anything.

It's a huge, folded-over, semilunar lamination flap. In other words, almost half the surface separated and folded over onto the remainder of the planchet before the strike. For more examples, see this article: http://www.coinworld.com/articles/p...oon-shaped-i

Thank you so much for solving this mystery Mike, and great article on this error. Wow, they don't call you an expert for nothing! And thank you John for emailing Mike. What would be the value associated with this error?
