That coin looks exactly like an ICCS AU-55 that I sold 5 years ago...

Sure looks like an MS coin .. I do not see any circulation wear, but a few nicks here an there ... I would guess MS-62. Quite a handsome and rare coin!!

AU-53 only because I did not want to copy SPP's AU-55,, my initial thought.

Why are you pulling it from it`s flip? I`ll guess MS-60.

The Reverse is a touch blurry and therefore impossible to grade if unc or near unc...
....but the Obverse is sharp enough .."for a shot".
I'll give it an "Old ICCS" of AU 50 because I've never seen a AU 53 and I'll give it a "New ICCS" of AU 55.
I see some contact frosting in the fields in front of his face and also a bit behind him ...and then there's the slight flatness in the eyebrow showing a touch of wear.

I don't know if it's the lighting, but there is a difference between OBV and REV....the OBV looks nice but has that 'cleaned' look with a bit of luster that isn't visible on the reverse....either way, it's in the AU range of 50-58

well the verdict is in, EF-40 , I thought it was in the AU range myself,,,, maybe the ICCS grader had a bad day. i am removing it from the holder so I can put it in my now complete whitman canada dollar book, if/when I decide to sell it I would probably get it re-graded because I think it will get a higher grade my self,. thanks for all your input!

I agree...definitely undergraded. I have a lot of EF 40's and you can see noticeable light wear on the high spots of my EF 40's. Most 48 $1.00 were soon found and then ended up in high or near high grade. This is still a great piece and needs a higher grade. IMHO.. I think that most older ICCS graded coins were graded by 2 people that then concurred together. Does anyone know if that's the case.?..or did this only happen on tricky or problem coins..?

...on afterthought.... Is there any weakness due to wear down the 'center of the canoe'... and is there contact or wear on the shoulder of the Reverse voyageur or the native. We did not see 'that side' clear enough to properly grade...

all you need to see is the obverse, they hardly even look at the reverse. And now that I see the second picture I can see why it is EF and not AU.
