The pics in my Krause aren't sharp enough for me to make an exact match. But your coin looks the most like a pattern coin I see that is "rare". There isn't even a price for it.

Hopefully someone else better at this will come along.

At this point I'm thinking copy....

Haven't seen one like that before. And with "One Dllar" misspelled I'd say a very very bad counterfeit. However I have no idea what they are copying.

Becky where in Krause?

I didn't even notice that dollar was misspelled!!I was concentrating so hard on trying to match up the characters.

I found some dollars in the Empire-General issue/China catagory that look very similar to this one. Most of them were worth a lot, the one I saw that was close was KM#Pn42.

FYI, a friend came back from China with a nicely-packaged set of Chinese dollar-sized coins. These were clearly just souvenirs although they seemed well-made. They looked good enough I think to fool a novice. The set even included a nice write-up for each coin design, in fairly good English. A quick check with a magent confirmed the coins were steel, not silver.
Have you checked your coin to see if it's magnetic?

Yes I checked that first off, but I thought it was possibly a fake or a copy when I bought it. I got it for almost nothing, so I don't figure I am out anything and it will go into my collection of fake coins. I have a Morgan that is a fake and has fooled a lot of dealers, I even had it at the Charlotte Show in March and 5 out of six made me an very good offer and the sixth knew it was a fake.

Thanks for checking for me
