We bought three. One for the collection and two as potential gifts.
We like the design and it's really a no lose purchase.

Quote: Even with a face value of 100$ it would need better design (IMO) for me to buy some.
Actually it is a really nice design. Much better looking than "chicken head" eagle coin. Plus lots of Americans are into Buffalo coins.

Between the $100 for $100 coin and the "chicken head" eagle, I bet the $100 for $100 will do better in the secondary market one year from now.

I bought one for my personal collection. If you ever need the money you can of course try the bank or ebay will get you at least 100.

I've ordered 6. For anyone that collects coins, it's the safest purchase to make. There's nothing to lose. As to the shipping date...... They listed the day and month right, but put the wrong year. Lol.

@redfish - If you can find one which they will. All the banks hate me (coin roll hunting) so I may have trouble.

I'm excited about this coin. I saw an enlarge picture in the boutique store yesterday and order three this morning.
I believe this is going to be one of those coins that the pictures won't do it justice. Can't wait to have it in the hand.

@tristen1230 I recall read from RFD there is a success story to cash out $20 for $20 in bank. Well, of course, just some paper involved :-p
hopefully not too hard

I'm probably going to pass on this coin.
On a mildly related note, I was visiting Ottawa this weekend and spoke to one of the tour guides at the mint. I asked her about difficulties cashing in a 20 for 20 coin, or for the upcoming 100 for 100 coin. She said that all banks should (in theory) accept them and that the reason they don't accept them may be because they're unfamiliar with the process. Banks need to collect a number of these NCLT coins and then send in the batch to the mint along with some forms. She informed me that a quick call to the mint from the bank manager would sort it all out. Sounds good in theory; in praxis, probably not so easy

There was a big news report (in Toronto) about people trying to cash in their $20 for $20 coins at the bank. The guy in the report had a hard time at first, but after all the media attention, got some bills. Any business or person can refuse any currency, whether it be paper/polymer money or coins. The bank (or store, or gas station, etc., or even a local drug dealer) does NOT legally have to accept these coins eventhough they are legal tender. It is 100% at their discretion. With that being said, even if you are a good standing customer at a bank, and try to cash in a $100 coin, I'd expect the teller to give you a very puzzled look. After speaking to the branch manager, you should be able to exchange the coin for a bill... But it may take a few minutes while they call the mint.

Usually when I walk into a bank, they recognize me, and expect an unusual transaction, such as exchanging $500 in bills for 25 cent coins or $2500 in $100 bills for all $5 bills. I think they'd know I wasn't just trying to pull a quick one on them by now.
