I started collecting silver in Oct. 2008. That turned out to be serendipitous, considering the PM crash coincided with my new-found interest.

At $11 for my first purchase, a generic silver 1 oz. round that copied the Buffalo nickle design, I know now that I was spoiled early by exceptionally low prices, which unfortunately didn't last long enough for me.

But I put every spare cent into the endeavor of collecting bars, rounds, ASE's, world silver, numismatic silver... essentially anything I could get my hands on, as long as it weighed around an oz.

On a pretty limited budget, I somehow managed to pass 750 ounces two years later. When prices began rising in late 2010, I couldn't justify adding to my stash, so I essentially quit buying silver for nearly 1 1/2 years before the bug bit again when silver dropped back to around $26 from the high of nearly $50.

Since then, I've scraped and clawed my way toward 1K. Finally, the last oz. fell into my lap, via USPS, today, an Australia 2003 $1 Kangaroo- Aboriginal Inspired Gilded UNC Boxed w/COA. Grand total: 884 coins, 1000 oz., at the cost of just under $30,000.

Will I stop now? Of course not. But my days of getting 10-20 oz. a week are long gone. Now, I'm thinking maybe 1-5 oz. a month, tops... unless I see the kind of deal that's impossible to ignore.

My next goal would probably involve about 20 ozs. of gold. But sadly, it will take a little doing, considering the cost per ounce and the high premium issue with fractionals. Stay tuned.

You must be very rich to be tying up so much cash in precious metals. Either that or you're crazy.

that's an accomplishment!

I've seen some of your coins, and first they are numis, and only then silver coins.

You sir have stacked. I am often confused by people shouting about PMs and the impending economic collapse in one thread the discussing the possible purchase of a single ASE now that spot prices have dropped in another. Absolutely nothing wrong with collecting bullion coins but 20 or 30 coins are not going to be an effective inflation hedge imho. They can however be a wonderful collection to be enjoyed and treasured for years.

Congrats! Speaking from experience, I know that you do not need to be very rich or crazy. Now that you've reached this milestone, however, you might want to give some serious thought as to other investments you can make rather than continuing to amass PMs with all your space spare cash.

Quite an accomplishment in what seems to be a short time. Good discipline, but yes, there's nothing wrong with diversifying, now that you have a good position in silver.

I am waiting for someone to chastise you for letting people know you have this much Silver because you will be a potential robbery target.

don't be paranoid
with hundreds of thousands of millionaires in the country 1000oz of silver - is for poor )))
until those big bucks are robbed no one would go after 30kg wealth worth 30k :)

@Traevin Congrats on the milestone!! Welcome to the club, Once the first 1000 is there it seems like the next comes quicker.

@Demarco I guess I am crazy too. Though I have money tied up into more than PMs I have a taste for high end exotic cars that one must make me super crazy

Congrats, the first thousand is always the toughest. When you get to 10k then you have to question your sanity as I have.

I store some in the bank, some in vault, and about half is buried in the ground.
