Please look at the area around the MM and on Reverse, Right edge of Memorial Building, and tops of UNITED STATES and tops of AMERICA.
Please let me know what you think.
Pete

That is split plating/ It happens when too much pressure is used to strike the coin. Happens more often than you think.

Thanks - maybe I am making some progress...I thought it was a plating issue and not some form of DD or RPM!

Can't tell for sure by your pics but that might be a DDR class 6.

Thanks John1 - I have seen the terminology class 6 (or other number) and since I haven't looked at it before, I just now found this definition of Doubled Die Class VI by JT Stanton:
"Class VI Doubled Dies - Distended Hub Doubling
This form of doubled die is the most difficult for many novices to identify, as it will rarely exhibit any separation of the two images. A die may be hubbed with greater than normal pressure, then hubbed again with normal pressure, but with the design in a slightly different position. This will create a single image, but with thicker than normal letters and numbers, with little or no trace of doubling."

The confusing thing to me about this definition is that it sounds like there would be no separation lines in Class VI...can you help me understand?
Pete

Does that reflect what you are thinking?

It looks normal. They have wider devices than the previous years. especially the reverses.

Thanks for the education - on re-examination and comparison to the Class VI images on the link given above, I still think it is split plating - wish you were right!
