Am I correct with calling this a Die Trial? Should I get it graded? Thanks for the help.

Kris

PMD. On a trial strike (really a Low Pressure Strike) you would see the rims like planchet would have. This one has been sanded to death.

I don't see why somebody would sand down a coin. What about reeding? I read a Coin World article by Mike Diamond with photos that looked similar to my coin.

People sand them,smash them,solder them,drill holes...all kinds of things.You got a damaged coin,nothing else.

I think this has a misaligned obverse die. I would like to send it to someone that specializes in these coins. I am 100% certain it is an error. Mike Diamond sounds like the guy that will know about this. there are no sanding lines on the coin. there are a few scuffs and some minor wear from circulation.

The magazine has pictures of the reeding that don't show up online.

As others have correctly stated, this coin was heavily abraded outside the Mint. It's not an error.

Thanks Mike,
I will destroy this coin so no other collectors end up with it thinking the same thing I did.

I will hold onto this coin too, I don't see any sanding lines. If I was to find out someday in the future that this actually was an error and I destroyed it I would be very upset with myself.
