Yeah they dumped me :-( they said that it cost them too much to order the rolls of coins I was buying... Also their coin counting machine was getting too much "wear" on it... Guess it's time to switch banks. Perhaps a national bank like Bank of America or something... Joe

I do this with 3 banks. 4 boxes to one then the others

Quote: Perhaps a national bank like Bank of America or something... It's not BoA's job to supply you with rolls either. If I owned a bank I sure wouldn't do it for free. You'd pay every single red cent that it costs me to get them + at least 20%. Banks aren't charities, they're businesses.

Bank defined by TFD: Quote: 1.A financial establishment that invests money deposited by customers, pays it out when required, makes loans at interest, and exchanges currency. When it says "pays out when required, I don't think that means $25 in 2,500 pennies. I would say a $20 & $5 bill would probably make more sense. I don't think you have a right to expect to be able to demand the denomination of which they pay you, although they may do you a favour and give you a box of pennies every once in a while.

thanks reupman. Good advice. Do your banks count the rolls? I went to TD Banknorth and they counted every quarter in each roll I gave back rewrapped. It took forever... Sucks becasue I love roll hunting but I think it's going to take me a while of bank searching for anyone to accept my rolls and give them to me.

Taking your dumps back to where you bought them isn't the greatest idea. It's ok if the bank is ok with it, but it's a good way to get cut off. On top of that, it's entirely possible to get your dumps right back, as the coins go off to the local rolling facility and come back just like a boomerang.

For every roll hunter searching small amounts, there are roll hunters searching thousands of dollars in coin a week, without fees. It's greed that's going to hurt the hobby.

I'm sorry your bank dumped you. . I assume that you were ordering denominations outside the usual, such as halves and Ike's. That could be why they were costing to much for them.to keep ordering for free. I'm surprised they didn't just start charging you for them instead of cutting you off. And as said, dumping at the same place you pick up from is bad manners. As for too much wear on their machine, its going to happen, I think its cruddy excuse to cut you off. I understand that banks are a business but they need customers ti thrive. Not that they couldn't with CRH's, but keep your customers happy. Saying you have to take YOUR money in a certain way is almost infringing on freedom. Almost, since you do agree.to the banks rules. That being said, abusing the right, such 1000's of $in coins a week, is no good either. Its a two way street and both parties have to work together and understand the other.

thanks for the replies. Actually I ony took out quarters and denoms under. $200 dollar to $300 dollars about once a week or every other. The bank is a regional small bank so they said they can't afford the shipping of the rolls. I dunno hopefully a bank will accept my crazy hobby one day. Alwasy get sighs and weird looks though from bankers who aren't collectors. Haven't joined a new bank yet but will do so when I move from NJ to Ames Iowa. Having no coins to go through though is saddening. CRH is really addicting. It's like x marks the spot of the treasure! oy. ~Joe

I do believe the "exchanges currency" part of your definition would cover the $25 exchange of cash for a box of Pennies

But with so many pennies, that is not a legal tender transaction , no? Canadian Currency Act : Quote:
8 (e) twenty-five cents if the denomination is one cent.

But what if I own an everything is .99 cents store?I would then need a large amount of pennies to make change for the thousands of .99 cent items I would sell.

Stores have business accounts and those are charged monthly fees. They get different services and they pay for them.
