Picked this up the other day along with many other 50 cent pieces I think I am going to keep this one for my collection. What are your opinions?

Upon posting these pictures I noticed something interesting. It appears this coin may be a weak strike error. If you will notice around the "K" or by the lions arm there is definitely something happening there. In hand and under a loop it is very obvious that this coin has maintained all of its mint luster even in the aforementioned area.

Could this be a weak strike? I really do not see this being PMD, what are your opinions?

Definitely not PMD. Weakness in the shield is typical for the series. Little too much "cabinet rub" for MS. AU50.

In hand I believe you would have a different opinion. The only flaws I see personally is the toning that is starting.

It is so hard to capture the life in the coin through pictures.

Was it the obverse that in your opinion has cabinet rub?

You could very well be right John that your coin may be better. Hard to grade from pictures and you do have the coin in hand. Your coin has a weak strike reverse that is typically found in the top left corner of the shield. Is common on almost all years of King George 50 cents. The "cabinet rub" is on the neck, hair, cheek and eye brow on the obverse. Still a very nice coin with no problem marks or dings. Too bad it isn't a hoof. There are some real good graders on this site, so wait and see what some other members opinions are. Just my opinion, nice coin and thanks for sharing.

Impossible to grade without the coin in hand. You have to see through that smokey patina, tilt the coin in strong light at various angles. I suspect the coin is mint state, only because the rim looks pristine, but high points on the reverse say otherwise...

Can't see any coin contact or marks anywhere.

If you gave it an AU grade, you'd expect to see some visible contact marks across the shield. You's expect to see some contact marks on his cheek or jaw,... and I don't.

I see the rub in the hair and neck and a touch on the jaw and that's all.

I hope that the plastic slip cover and some coin movement haven't caused those visible rub marks.

I give it an easy MS grade and probably/possibly more if in hand.

Very nice..!!

Yes.. very hard to grade coins through plastic, it kills the luster and, I believe the rubs you see are caused from the plastic itself.

In hand, MS-60

Looks to me like I can see some wear, so if it was mine, I'd mark it AU58
