New to collecting and for fun I like to grade what I have in my mind. I mostly have started with modern coins but I do have this 1849 Large Cent in my collection and wanted to get opinions. In my mind I'm thinking Fine to Extremely Fine... Although a couple aspects have me bouncing around to pin it down. Your opinions? As you can see, some of te hair detail is gone. Liberty appears pretty well, although the light in the photo make the top of the word look a little less defined. Stars appear nice. On the back, "States of" does not appear as pronounced as "united" and "America". Would love to hear opinions good or bad. Thanks!

I'm not a grading expert, but other CCF members will help you. You might take a look at this web site. PCGS is a major grading and authentication service and their pictures will help you to compare and estimate a grade.

Look for the column on the left titled "Take the First Step" and click "PCGS Photograde Online"

Thanks for the input everyone! Seems to be in line with what I was thinking. Sorry about pic quality... Camera phone :( Wish my DSLR wasn't currently out of commission.

VF20..The cheek has enough roundness and the leaves show enough detail IMO. It could be the lighting but it looks cleaned

Sharpness of F-12 to F-15. Probably closer to the 15 range.
