The suggestion was forwarded for the Boy Scouts of America to arrange for a 100th commemorative series in 1912. I have heard nothing back from them but hopefully they will follow the examples of Turkey and Britain.

I succumbed to the power of suggestion. Followed the British mint link and bought the British 50 pence piece. They have one in cupro-nickel (that's the one shown above I believe) and a silver proof. I went with the silver proof. Now I think I try the Turkish one. I have an 8 year old in boy scouts. I think his troop will really think these are cool.

I'll try to get the British one from circulation. 6.45 Pounds is a lot of money to pay for a CuNi coin. also the silver one is too expensive for me, its price is double the Turkish one.

RenaL: I couldn't figure out how to buy the Turkish one. How would you do it? Thanks.

I see the Turkish coin is on sale on E-bay for a BIN of $38. Seller has feedback score of 92 and is Ankara, Turkey. Hmmm, not too sure about going that route.

Well, Turkish mint does accept bank transfer and credit card payements. However, credit card option seems extremely unprofessional to me, because they ask the customer to send all their credit card data, so you simply hand over your card. They do pretty nice job if you have a bank transfer, you can find the bak account info at the bottom of the page http://www.darphane.gov.tr/english/esatisl.htmHere you have a small problem also; they haven't listed the coin to the English section yet. The price for foreigners is a bit more compared to us (eg. TROJA coin has a face value of 30 YTL = 16.75 EUR, but listed as 25 EUR - including postage). New coins are available for us at face value. If you're not in a great hurry, I guess we can arrange some kind of a trade.

Hey Rena: I ordered this the night you posted, and it came today. Pretty fast. It's a smaller coin than I thought, probably 20g or so, but nice nevertheless.

Jim, last I read in Scouting Magazine, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM - the international headquarters of Scouting in Geneva, Switzerland http://www.scout.org/ ) has 155 member nations with some 28 million youth worldwide.
