This stood out as there is no copper color. It appears to be brass in color. Is this from environmental damage or is this a plating issue from the mint?

I guess if it was a plating issue it would still have the mint luster. I am just surprised that a 2012 looks like that. It has all the details of a good strike with no outer coating.

Probably it had something added to the coin. Even taco sauce can affect a cent. Seems to be the go to coin to experiment with. If the ruin it, what are they out? One cent. But most of the time, they end up in circulation and we find them.
