So I was wondering what the grade on this Walking Liberty half would be, or opinions on it in general. I was thinking EF/XF, but wondered how much the rim nicks at 10-12 o'clock and toning would effect it. Still XF? Lower? Higher?

Going to use cropped versions of the seller's pictures, since I wouldn't be able to get anywhere near as good pictures of it.

Thanks for your time.

I say EF-45, and I don't think toning effects it's grade.

It might be a higher grade AU. I am not sure I see too much wear as much as I see details of the relief subdued by toning. Toning can affect a grade if the patina is so thick it impedes on the luster and details of the coin. I do not believe that to be the case here. I think this coin has a nice even thick patina with enough luster still peeking through.

I would grade this AU, I just do not know what level it would land on.

Easy XF 45, and a shot at AU 50 as the "s" mint is notorious for a weak strike on these coins. It's better than the coin in my album, time for an up grade on mine.

I think it can grade AU-55. I see very little wear and appears to have a lot of luster though a little subdued by the toning.

AU50. I dont think the rim dings will affect it...they are not that distracting.

I don't see any signs of circulation wear on this Walker, only a few marks that might mean it spent a couple of minutes in circulation. I'm going to say AU58 based on all the missing details are due to strike quality.
This is actually a decent strike for 42-S. There are a lot of extremely flat examples out there.

AU58 might even go MS61/62 if there isn't signs of rub on the reverse and I can't tell through all the lovely golden toning. Per David Hall, founder of PCGS - "Most 1942-S Walking Liberty half dollars have very weak detail on Ms. Liberty's left hand"

There is a Large and Small S for this year. This apears to be the Small S, the lower serif has more of a trumpet shape while the large S has a serif that is more bulbous looking.
