Poll Question
This is just a question I have been asking myself lately since I find ebay and paypal total crooks in terms of fees. When I'm selling coins, I always tell the people buying from me, forget about ebay, I will just ship it Cash on Demand (COD) via Canada Post. This way the buyer doesn't have to give his CC info, deal with eBay/paypal, when the parcel arrives the customer pays so signature is a must and a cheque is then written out to the seller. Personally I have always found this the safest way to do business and for sellers to earn a maximum profit.

There are sections on the left hand side for CCF Auctions and Buy It Now readily in place. The seller just has to meet the criteria ( Buy / Sell / Trade | 250 Posts to Sell | 50 Posts to Buy) as a member of the CCF. I totally despise the eBay/Paypal fees myself, but there is a worldwide audience that is undeniably attractive. I have done several buy/sell transactions here on CCF and have not been disappointed (well there was this one transaction that went south with a 2009 Jefferson nickel String and Sons wrapped roll, which I received a less than desirable feedback on). There are several "protection" factors on ebay that the CCF does not employ, it is up to the buyer and seller to work things out if something goes awry.

As oih82w8 said, be actually do. But just a questions for you: Quote:When I'm selling coins, I always tell the people buying from me, forget about ebay, I will just ship it Cash on Demand (COD) via Canada Post. Do you do this for existing ebay transactions?

What happen if the check is no good? Haven't do that type of transaction yet, just wondering...

Well, I would agree but it is going to take a heck of a long time before I get past the draconian restrictions of the number of posts etc, so I have no choice but to use e bay or other sources to buy.

I don't understand the question. Are you talking about using ebay and circumventing their checkout/payment process? Are you talking about selling coins on CCF?

Unlike ebay, there's no way to be sure the sellers or buyers are legit. One way to minimize complains and such is to only allows people with high number of posts to bid or sell on here. I know someone can create a bunch of garbage posts to up their post counts but I believe the mods here do check the post to make sure the majority of those post counts are not consist of "hi" "welcome" "sfdsfsdf." The idea here is if someone willing to spend the time on this forum to create 50+ posts, chances are, the others have an idea who that person is in the forum. It's an opportunity for you and the other to know who they are dealing with. My only complain about the auction here is... not enough traffics. That being said, it is a free tool and an additional avenue to sell or buy your stuffs without fees. Quote: why don't accept paypal? This is more to do with saving the 3% fee. It doesn't matter if you use Paypal or paypal Gift, someone have to pay that 3% fee (either the buyer or the seller). I personally prefer EMT if the person I am dealing with is in Canada. the fee for EMt is usually minimum compare to having to buy money order and waiting for the snail mail to arrive. If I am dealing with someone in U.S, I would prefer paypal. Definately refuse to take personal cheque.

Quote: What happen if the check is no good? Haven't do that type of transaction yet, just wondering... When doing a COD via Canada Post, it's Canada Post themselves that issue a cheque to the seller. They collect cash from the buyer upon delivery, and they then cut a cheque to the seller.

I would think there's a fee involve and you have to wait for Canada Post to issue you a cheque? I find it simpler to use Paypal or EMT

Should we be able to sell coins here? Yes. With enough posts you can.

although I do not sell (yet), I find the shipping, PayPal and other costs pretty steep. So other means of acquiring coins for me would be welcome.

Again, I don't understand. You realize that shipping items costs money right? If you find shipping costs to be steep, then what is the alternative?

Oops! Hit the wrong button and double posted. So, I'll add that ebay offers along with PayPal some pretty good protection.

I don't mind ebay and PayPal fees as a seller one bit. The coins I am listing always sell. There is no way any local market would fetch the attention and money I can get from ebay. As a buyer you can't go wrong besides overspending. Everyone I've felt with privately through this site have been great!
