That's pretty. However, looking at the striations on the obverse, I have to believe it's relatively-modern toning after being hit with a brush, and for that reason perhaps...."encouraged" by the owner. As regards grade, I'm going to await other opinion. My "key" for determining AU/MS comparisons for Barber coins is the wingtips, which don't have enough contrast/detail here for me to offer an opinion. So I'm going to watch for someone like Matthew Vincent to weigh in.

I am ignoring the toning on this, but I say at least MS-64 because it has so much detail and the mint luster. It could be higher though.

I agree with the post above me, it would be a strong MS64 and qualify for MS65. Also has some spectacular toning. But you called it a quarter and its a half dollar.

okay, based on all pictures:
AT, plus a cleaning (see the slight 'slide' marks on the obv.) The toning may have been 'helped along' to hide a previous cleaning.
Plus the rim hits at about 11:00 on the obverse, and the left side of the reverse.

Old cleaning, the coin is an AU 58, with album toning.

I am going to agree with the AU-58 call. Seems to be far too many hairline scratches and hits on the obverse stars. This one most likely saw some light circulation.

Nice coin but the scratches all over the obverse, the rim nicks, the questionable toning, and the deep scratch from the top of the bonnet to the ear would prevent this one from getting a clean grade. Can a TPG fit all of these problems on a details slab header?

I like the coin but sadly it was one time cleaned. I thinking AU-58 because of scratches.
