I don't at all follow your line of reasoning.

Moreover, why are you looking specifically for die cracks?

Key word - ebay.

Die cracks won't bring a premium at a show, in a coin shop, or to knowledgeable collectors or dealers. Saving them if you like them is one thing, but saving them for value would be a waste of time.

I disagree with coppercoins about die cracks not bringing premiums: I'd just like to point out that die cracks amounting to VAMs will indeed bring a premium. Also, on older coins, die cracks help identify specific die "marriages" and varieties. Thus on large cents, die cracks are often essential in determing whether a coin will bring $100 or $100,000.

On VAMs I agree with you...then again, I've never understood why they bring such a premium. Die cracks are very common on silver dollars.

With large cents, die cracks are used as markers to identify dies that made very few coins. Given that many people collect large cents and Half Cents by specific die, the coins with the die cracks are worth such a premium because of their low mintage, not because of the die crack.
