What's with this S? Damage+maybe Machine Doubling,closed and square S. I don't know! What ya think?

There are two different S mintmark punches used on 1974S cents. The one you have is a small date, so it's the larger S used until 1979. The large date 1974S cents have the smaller S that had been used since 1971. None of them have any marketable premium value.

That's a first to me. So the large mm was used on the 75-79? Maybe someday I will be able to answer a ? instead of asking.

Yes, the larger, boxy mintmark was introduced in 1974 and was used until 1979. It is the "filled-S" or "type 1" for 1979S proofs. That was when the next style was introduced, the "clear S" for 1979 was used until 1981.

The 1981 "Clear S" is a one-year use. In 1982 they went back to an old style of S that had serifs.
