I picked this up today, I am unsure of the variety and would love to hear members opinions on both the grade and variation.

Using the 2010 Charlton Catalogue and reviewing pages 309 to 317, I could not see your variety. ..and all of those pages were showing only the 1885 5 cents varieties.

Yours is completely distinct from the many listed examples in those many pages. Your coin almost looks like an extra piece fell into the # 5 of the die as it was struck.

I was hoping to find a known variety for you...

Small 5
Doesn't appear to be a 5/5,I think they all have a little bit of extra metal showing at the upper left corner of the five.Can't see that on your coin.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I'd go with small 5 as well. VG8-10 due to the wear on the reverse. Could just be PMD that looks like something more just because of its shape and location. Hard to tell from pictures unfortunately.
