Now that I've spent some time looking at my 2013 Special W's I've reached a few conclusions: The 2013 W Reverse Proof is spectacular! I've yet to find a flaw on the coin and the polished devices against the frosty fields are gorgeous! I'm even more interested in getting the 06 for comparison. The Enhanced "Uncirculated" unfortunately falls kind of flat for me. I love the matte field and the polished devices but don't like the proof finishing on the rest of the devices. On top of that my EU is far from flawless; the fields show discoloration, from worn dies I suspect. Hearing how numerous 69 & 70 examples are I'm actually quite pleased with an example that is "flawed". These photos don't do the coins justice, the Enhanced look better in hand that above, very dusty holders. I'm glad I have the first "Enhanced" ASE from the mint but don't feel compelled to chase a mint mark in 2014. West Point's Reverse Proof is a real beauty! I'm excited to get the other '13 ASEs, especially the Uncirculated (may even skip the Proof!). Am I the only one that's put off by the "frosty" finish used on current proofs?

For those of you who finally received their graded sets from Goldmart, did you happen to notice if the OGP that was sent included the blue cushion insert used to keep the coins from coming out of the slots inside the box? Friend finally received his sets and they used about 100 of them as cushioning material inside the large box that was used to ship them! Some people might not care but its technically part of the OGP, and I doubt there's any way to purchase them individually.

Quote: Am I the only one that's put off by the "frosty" finish used on current proofs? You arent alone. I enjoy older proofs much more than the modern ones. It can look good though when there arent huge open fields like on the Franklin Founding Father Commemorative. My biggest complaint with it is its so good the slightly little flaw stands out like a sore thumb and its really hard to keep looking perfect. I do also agree the Enhanced ASE is nice, but I like the RP much better. I would have liked the enhanced more if they fliped the proof and uncirculated fields, its definitely a proof regardless of what they call it.

@addielise. Goldmart told me, among other things that the sets were shipped without the pads from the mint. Another lie that they told me

Everyone has an opinion, I too included, I believe things happen for reasons, I also believe this "SET" has historically significant ASE'S in it, no matter what I think about the sweet looking EU look. I also love the RP, of which to date there are only the 06, 11, 12, 13, this total of 4 is climbing , especially since I believe, IMO, the Mint will produce MORE of these Sweet Looking ASE'S........

I agree with morgans dad. The EU coin is really nice and the 2013 set is a historic item. The Reverse Proof Silver Eagles are still my favorites though. I just hope the Mint just doesn't go overboard by minting a new one every year now.

I just bit the bullet and bought two NGC graded early release blue label ASE's for $177.77 which seemed like a pretty good price. One is a SP69 Enhanced Finish and the other is a Reverse PF69. They should be here by Friday.

$177.77 is not a bad price. Do you mind sharring where you got them at that price? I've been looking at picking up some graded versions myself and have gone back and forth between 69's and 70's. I have two sets in original packaging and I want some slabbed ones that I can play with :).

I bought them from a dealer on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/usr/crc-1They had 3 listed at the 'Buy It Now' price, but they're now sold out. You could maybe keep and eye out and see if they put some more up.

Thanks Gruver! Now for the tough decision...go with the pf 69 or hold out for the 70. Decision, decisions, decisions.

I came to the consensus that the 69's were still just as gorgeous, but they weren't as pricey as the 70's so I settled with the 69's.

Gruver - as a collector you'll be fine with 69's today and maybe when you sell them people will realize that the difference between a 69 and a 70 has to be explained using a lope and technical terms... I agree the price difference makes it tough to take the jump to 70 for some coins.

Id say if you feel these sets have an unrealized upside go for the 70 since this is by far the cheapest set for a 70 at the moment if not go for the 69. Some 70 sets on ebay are selling as cheap as 280.
