I love proclamation/colonial coins. I just wish I had time & money to invest in some.

I am not "Investing" in these I simply love the history that oozes out of each coin.
I put the blame for this compulsion for these coins directly at Markns door.
He let me have a few of his coins and it just hit a "sweet spot" with me and now I just have to get more of these.
These are bloody amazing coins when you get "into" them.
Some are declared in the proclamation and some are simply "Colonial Coins" whatever, they WERE all used in the early days of settlement as currency and are part of our numismatic history

I should use the word investing, because I only sell what I fall out of love with & then rebuy something else I fall in love with. My collection is just too broad. I've just got to stick to something & I think that'll be my notes. But I think that's why I have way too much stuff. I've got a couple early 1800 British Farthings which were used as currency in Australia, I guess I'd consider them to be Colonial, because of when they were used. I figure maybe proclamation, would be the earliest & nicer currency used e.g your silver & gold's.

Not bad for a 200+ year old gold coin I'd say.

trout, 'ole fella: It's nice to see you have some really nice gold at last.
Also interesting that you have taken up a serious study of the Proclamation series.

I have taken a bit to concentrating on part of the British series, that has always seriously been neglected by Australian collectors: that period of British coinage 1825 to 1855.
It was in 1825, that the first substantial shipment of new British coinage was landed in Sydney Cove, and thus British coinage was strongly established as Australia's only circulating currency.

Procalmation coinage was begun to be withdrawn from 1825.

I think you do appreciate your more expensive buys more. I've just spent a horrific amount on a coin - hope to get it in a couple of weeks - possibly not quite as much as that beautiful ducat - but not far off it :)

The Weekend hasn't finished yet Me old Mate
I have already bought a 1872 St George Sydney mint sovereign and I am dickering to get a 1870 Sydney Mint Wreath sovereign

I have the Brit silver and copper coinage from that era and all I really need is the other Gold coins to complete a type set Proclamation collection.
I eventually want to get my collection to cover the start of the Australian Settlement right up to the modern day coinage.
I have a fair bit of it covered up to now but I have many many more coins to acquire before I am happy with it

I have most of the pieces here myself, but no Proc. gold, except for a 1790 guinea (tiny damage from removed mount). They are spread throughout my World collection. Perhaps my collection needs some re arrangement in this regard. The average condition of these is better than mine.

I don't have a Ducat (that one is a beauty), and a George 111 3d.
I do have a Charles 111 4 reales, (condition only Good).
I have only 5x2 stuivers.
