Which Label maker do you suggest for making labels that will fit on top of coin tubes and similar items? I would like something low cost.

The one I use is a Dymo Letra Tag 2000 label maker. You can use several colors of tape for the label: white, red, clear. Normally, it prints one line, but when you adjust the text size down it can print 2 lines. I bought it many years ago from a big box retail store, so I don't know the current price.

on the one I mentioned, you can print a one character label, or several feet in length. Just depends on how long your batteries last.

I have had two different, Brother brand P touch label printers. Both from a long time ago. The first was a hand held that did 1/4" 5/16" wide tapes in assorted colors of letters and tapes. The second is the style that can be USBed to a computer desk top, and used with the software that came with it. Also the width, colors and types of tapes are better. Mine Uses 1/4",6mm to 1" 24mm. They are really nice and I use it for everything that needs a label. The have clear label tape. Be prepared the tape isn't cheap, and unless you spend some time adjusting the type and printing info it will waste tape at the start and end of the printing. here is their web site. And any big box office supply will have them and with the coupons and sales and cards you can save some money. Wally world and Meijers have them also. http://www.brothermall.com/PTouch-L...LabSys_Home1

Thanks Circus. I found that brand at the local wally world on clearance last week. I do not remember the price but I think I will stop in there today and check it out again. I didnt buy it before because I was wondering why it was on clearance. I didnt know if it was a problem brand or discontinued.

Like all electronics, as soon as they hit the shelf in the stores they are obsolete! My first hand held P touch cost around $49.00 on sale about 15 or so years ago. My USBer connect P touch on sale at a big box office supply, about 10 years ago was the same price down from $89.00 because of to many in inventory at model change over.
But like ink printers, they get you on buying the tapes to use. But I love mine and use it for everything jar labels for bulk spices, putting coffee in plastic jars instead of the foil bags.

I agree that once I have one that I will find many other uses around the home for it. Labelling everything!

I buy my P-touch Home Hobby III tapes on ebay. Check around, so much cheaper than even big box or office stores. I really like this one. Hand held. Prints 2 lines. Uses 6 double A batteries, but I can't tell you when I last changed them. Only downer is the wasted 1/2" of tape on each end when you print.

I just bought the Dymo labelwriter 450 as a recommendation from a friend. $70 too much? Awesome label/postage maker!

P-Touch is a reasonable priced label maker and it works good.

In todays Sunday paper there is an ad for Office max good through 6/22/2013 they have the Brother PT-2030 desktop label maker item number 2236-5771 Reg $49.99 non sale for $19.99 they have 50 predesigned labels now. It looks to be the same one I have only a new version. If you are looking for this type label printer Quote: Create durable, laminated labels for indoor or outdoor use in a variety of colors and sizes - " up to 18mm wide - " using one of 4 fonts, 16 framing options, 10 type styles or an array of symbols.Includes 0.47" (12mm) laminated "TZ" starter tape and User's Manual. Operates on 6 "AA" batteries or AC adapter (both sold separately). It doesn't do 1" or hook to the computer. If you can live with that it is cheaper that the hand held one I started with years ago! http://www.brother-usa.com/Labeling....Ub4IYsrheSo

This thread sparked an idea---I wonder if there is a way to use my printer to write on the cardboard 2x2 holder instead of personally writing on them.

Only if you use labels I would think.

They did make a flat bed printer years ago, There might be a printer out there that can load and print on the cardboard folders, but the cost might be to much for it

Cardboard / Mylar coin flips would be far better presented, with an appropriately small label, instead of handwriting.
