Need Help With 1881-S.....new VAM?

I have this 1881-S Morgan in MS grade.....no die cracks or chips that I can see except for right above this wing tip. Not sure what this is? Die chip? I can't find any VAM that mentions this mark. But I'm new to all of this, so maybe I'm just overlooking it in the VAM attributions.

Help please!

The place to start with 1881-S is to figure out the reverse die based on the mint mark and go from there.

Sure looks like a die chip. The thing to do, though, as Dave said, is to try and attribute it as an existing VAM first. Chances are it's either a known or unknown stage of an existing VAM - details like this emerging years later about a known VAM isn't surprising. Dies have lifetimes, and stuff happens.
