Hey everyone. I was lucky enough to find (and then get graded by ANACS) a 1921 VAM-25A. I got a MS 61. It seems that this is pretty rare in this condition. Anyone have any info or knowledge on this.

Neat coin. Aside VAM-44, of course, Infrequently-Reeded 1921-P's aren't as vanishingly rare as they seem to be reputed. Uncommon in Mint State, but not unknown. VAM-25 is a funny one, in the sense that only the relative strength of the die gouges under the reverse denticles determines the dividing line between 25 and 25A. For that reason, some savants don't necessarily recognize 25 and 25A as separate entities; so far it seems that no 25's without those gouges have been found. I tend to agree.

This is one of the more common IR 1921's. Not in Mint State - more commonly found in Circulated - but probably not a coin to immediately flip for megabucks if only because of lack of demand. Definitely a long-term hold, and I'd be happy owning one for that reason.

No problem. It's a definite keeper, against the day when Morgan varieties are more popular than they are now. The important point is, variety populations with Morgans are still a moving target. They're in no way as settled as Bust Halves are, for instance. It'll be some years before we know just_how_rare IR 1921's are in Mint State; at that point, you might just be sitting pretty. In my experience - and I've seen a lot of 1921's, they're my specialty - they're few and far between in Mint State.

There just aren't enough 1921-centric people like me for that to mean much, yet.
