Hello all,

I found this coin with a few dimes, and my inner skeptic has refused to get excited.
I have determined this to be a Caligula denarius, and then I found that these are commonly reproduced. I am a complete neophyte.
I am attaching a scan of the front and back.

My suspicions are that:
1. seems suspicious that it is in relatively good shape
2. I found it in circulation
3. from other images I've seen online, the top circle at the top of the wreath on the back should be 'hollow' but this one is solid.

my hope is that it is in fact authentic and someone put it into circulation by mistake

is there otherwise a test I can do, which wouldn't cause damage, to verify its authenticity?

Caligula-Denarius----Real-Or-Replica

I think I already know my answer.
because it looks a lot less like this:

and more like this:

If you had fun researching it you might be interested in buying a few, you can find them all over the place. It's a very inexpensive hobby (for the most part).

This one looked pretty obvious. Still learning but think I could have spotted this one as such.

A question for the experts, is this a copy of an actual type or just a fantasy piece?

I assume you mean replicas and not genuine Caligula denarii?

They are always one of the last to be had for anyone trying for a "12 emperors" set.
