Hi all,

I posted this elsewhere as I'm not too bright so am trying again.

During my service with the royal Hampshire regiment our colonel in chief, the late princess of Wales presented our colours and we were each given a commemorative coin, I guess there are around 600 in circulation, if that.

It doesn't really hold any sentimental value to me as I have the memories of meeting her so I'd sell it if it was worth anything but don't know where to start when it comes to value, hence me asking on here.

The coin itself is still boxed and unmarked, the clear box is scratched. I also have the regimental journal that marked the day.

Anybody give me an idea how to get an accurate valuation?

Thanks in advance.

happyhammer.

I think (from my limited experience of this forum) a very tricky question.

FYI my son is at a military sixth form school and has been given 1 of 400 Diamond Jubilee Crowns ( I have put it with my other crowns which are worth very little at this moment in time).

But given the interest in the late Princess it may be worth talking to an auction house that specializes in royal memorabilia.

Hopefully there is someone with more knowledge than me to answer your question.

Depending on whether it's actually a coin or a medallion, I guess it could be of interest to medal or militaria enthusiasts. Most of the larger auction houses deal in both, so you could take a photo and email them.

Or some have valuation days around the country where you can talk face to face. Lockdales for example: http://www.lockdales.com/newvaluations.html

I have deleted your other topic on this piece, which you'd posted in the Canadian section.

I suspect you have a medal, rather than a coin, though we'd really need to see pictures of it to ID it properly. If you can't do pics, then at least a description of the piece might tell us something about it.

it might not have sentimental value now, but it might in 30 or 40 years (or to a descendant)

this is "one of those things" that few people on the planet can say happened to them. an item presented to you and a select few others, by royalty.

i would venture to say that whoever buys it doesn't deserve it, and unless it's life changing money I would hang on to it.
