I would like to see your opinions on grading this coin, honestly I by the naked eye I would give it a EF 40 or AU 50. But then again I am very timid to try and grade a coin.

Take a look for yourself.
Thanks.

Thank you...how can I get the photos in without a link. I see other members have the photos show without having to click on a link.

Thanks

I did not have time to blow it up and lighten it out
But if the top of the eagles feathers show no wear the it
could go MS 62

Am I seeing the slightest bit of wear, right at the junction between wing and breast?

The first grading points are the top of both wings of the eagle which do not show up well in the pics

And Liberty's nose which is kind of indistinct and in the shadows

But since there is no slide on the left leg and since MS 62 does not
get you rich I would go with MS62 unless one of the two mentioned areas shows wear past slide past friction and past scuffing

It looks like it has wear to me. I'd say AU50/53.

I just got a similar coin back from NGC. Based on it (which came back MS61) I would say no more than that, only because of the marks on the obverse, and I see a red mark by her left knee as well. The reverse seems to show wear on the tips of the wings, which, as Ageka said, is an important area. But the stars on the obverse look really nice, so it might go up one more notch.

On a side note, Ageka, some time back you looked at a picture of the above referenced coin and told me about what looked like sticker glue on the coin. Based on what you said, I sent it to NSC and then on to NGC. The coin looks very nice now (after NSC did their thing) and came back as MS61. I hadn't realized when I bought it that the seller said it was AU.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Also, if you like St. Gaudens (or any other coins, for that matter), you can go to the Heritage Auctions site and see all kinds of these coins and what they have sold for, along with their grades. You can compare pictures of your coin to all the ones on their site. It will give you a real good indication of where your coin would be.

The site is: http://coins.ha.com/
