Photos are pretty close color-wise to what this looks like in hand.
Thanks for looking.

I'm working on the variety and having some trouble. I start with the T/I alignment on the reverse and the I is further left than I would expect. The varieties that are closest are O-102- no - that's 29 over 27 and I don't see that
O-103- no - left side stars are drawn to the left
O-115 - ok - maybe but some of the details aren't matching.

Maybe I'm just having a bad day. Also, there's a huge rain storm approaching so I'll get back to this in a few minutes.

That storm or one like it just came through here.

This is definitely not an overdate variety. I have three 1829's and they all look the same to my eye.
But then, I lack a good photo guide to variations.

I'll second the O-115. Recut lower arrowhead.

I'm not convinced of an O-115 for this coin...

Diagnostics for 1829 CBH, O-115:

Quote:
1829, O-115, R1.

Obverse: Star 13 points to middle of lower rear curl of Miss Liberty.

Reverse: Second T in STATES is higher than adjoining A and E.

1. (Obverse) The # 7 star on the OP's coin doesn't point at the juncture of the hair curl and the forehead like in Fever's 1829 O-115 R1 (below) from Coinzip.proboards.com (more like at the curl).

2. (Reverse )I don't see the second T in STATES in the OP's coin being higher like in Fever's 1829 CBH O-115 shown here. If anything, the second T is LOWER than the other letters.

3. (Reverse) The right end of the E PLURIBUS UNUM scroll extends under the M in AMERICA where the O-115 version stops under the A.

Of course, I haven't figured out which Overton I DO think it is yet!!

OK, I'm back and agree with Moe because the O-115 details aren't matching. Can someone take a look at the T/I alignment on this web site?

http://coinzip.wix.com/bust-half-do...tribute/1829

I think the I is further left on this coin than I would expect. I checked some O-115 1829s on Heritage and their alignment matches the web site.

I'm here to learn from the experts but so far I am raising a red flag.

I have no idea about Overton variety, but who took the poor eagle's eye out?

VF35. I'm thinking this may have been cleaned a while ago looking at all the halos around the devices

Cipster, after a little research, I think you were right originally with the O-103 pick. (See if there's a stair-step to the top crossbar of the 5 of 50 C. I can't tell from the pictures...)

O-103, R1 diagnostics from coinzip.com:

Quote:
Obverse Die 2 was used to strike this die marriage. Later, this obverse die was used to strike O-104.

This is the second and last use of Reverse Die B. It was first used to strike the O-102.

(1) Irregular top 5 of 50 C. The top has an irregular stair-step appearance on the underside.

(2) There is a triangular defect about 5 dentils to the left of the date. This defect protrudes from the dentils. This is not seen on all specimens.

(3) The outside lower curve of the D is recut.

Strong EF-45, close to AU-50. I agree that it probably had an old cleaning.
