I am new to collecting rolls of coins. would anyone know how much it would cost to send a roll of quarters to get graded, and what would quarters usually grade right out of the roll? I'm assuming its worth doing for my 2011 mint rolls(legendary nature)? any thoughts/comments?

not worth it... unless you have a keen eye for high grades, break it open or keep sealed, if you do have a keen eye, take only the highest grades (MS-67 and MS-68) youll get majority MS-65, MS-64 and MS-66

If you submit 100, your cost will be about $7 or $8 each. So a roll of 40 would cost you about $300. You will likely end up with a large number of coins graded MS64 or below that have a market value in the holder of lets say $3 to $5 on a good day. Selling 1 might take a month on ebay. Good luck selling 20 or 30 (or maybe 40)! Your much better strategy is to carefully go through them, looking for the best. Then, if they are good enough, submit them. If you aren't sure, you could go through them, submit the best one and pay the 415 or so to see what it grades. You are better off to pay $15 to submit the best one than to pay less per coin and submit a lot of junk that is essentially worth face value. A third option would be to submit the roll and have the grader reject all those under say MS65 or MS66. ICCS will charge $2 per coin to do that.

I'd say that grading should only apply to rare coins where each stage of grade makes a great difference. The legendary collection was produced in very large numbers, meaning that anything below MS 67 is not worth grading. Plus, these coins have all gone through counting machines that have made bag marks (MS64 and under) Sell them on ebay for around $3 each. I agree with smallcentguy.

Do you think that is also the case with the orca color, even though there are only 225,000?

The coloured coins will, on average, be very baggy - MS-62 on average. That is due to the extra handling those coins have undergone to get the colouring and clear coat protector. Go through the roll, and pick the best coloured Orca you have, and post a photo on here. If it is nice enough, it will be worth sending one in.

Only 225,000 of them were minted in 2011, the other 6 million plus minted in 2012. I have found full rolls of blues at many of the local dealers. They are out there.

Not a myth but a fact.
Take 30 seconds and look at the mintage report for 2012
There were 12,050,000 Orca's minted in 2012. Half of them are coloured

ICCS has a deal where you can send a roll and they will only grade the ones that make a certain grade. These you pay the full fee for.The rejects are then billed at 2.00 a coin. Makes your idea a bit cheaper. But still pretty expensive for a modern base metal coin.

You should sell them individually, making at $.75 profit on each one of the quarters.

MS 62 is the best I usually see. But of course, there's always a chance, that's what makes it fun.

ok, i'd like to thank everyone for their ideas and opinions. I think I will go through my rolls, only picking MS66 and higher. the other coins with get only alittle bit of attention from me when I throw them in the dryer to make sure that the crap stays "crap" and to better the numbers, right? lol

ok in regards to newer coins if one had a 2000p Nickel that would be worth getting graded assuming it was still close to an MS state?
